The first step in solving a 3x3 Cube is making a daisy.
Let’s start with a flower! The very first step is to plant a "daisy": four white “petals” around the yellow centre—no soil needed, just smooth cube turns.
The Daisy method is the first step in solving the Cube. It involves creating a daisy shape on the top face of the cube using the edge pieces that have a white side. This step is crucial as it sets the foundation for the subsequent stages of solving the cube. You can see in the following that the yellow centre with 4 white edged pieces make up the daisy pattern.
It's important to ignore all of the other edges and corners. So just to be clear, we are ignoring the grey blocks at this time, and we're only interested in the 4 edge pieces that have one white side and getting them into the positions in the cube below.
Just hold the cube in your hand and locate the yellow centre piece, and place it on top as in the cube below. It doesn't matter what position the other centres are in, or what is on the edges and corners, we're only interested in the yellow centre being on top.
If one of the white edges is on the bottom simply follow these moves, but slightly tricky make sure that the top layer with any existing white edges are not disrupted.
You can see when the cube tilts away from us, that there is a white edge piece on the bottom, we have to turn the top 180 degrees (U2) so that when we turn the front (F2') to bring the edge piece to the top, it doesn't move any of the 3 existing white edges (Daisy petals) and break our daisy.
Your daisy is blooming beautifully! Now it's time for the star performance: flipping those petals into a crisp white cross. Are you ready for the next act?
